HYPERPIGMENTATION

Types of Pigmentation

Melasma

Melasma is a common hyperpigmentary disorders which can be triggered/worsened by sun exposure and hormonal changes. Unfortunately, there is no cure and often recurs after treatment. Therefore, the key to the successful management of melasma is to address all underlying causes for melasma as well as preventing the recurrence after the initial successful treatment. A combination of medical therapies and laser toning can improve melasma.

Freckles & Age spots (Lentigines)

Freckles and age spots (lentigines) are more superficial pigmentation which can be removed successfully with lasers but there is a high risk of recurrence, especially with sun exposure. Some maintenance gentle laser treatment can keep it under control for longer duration.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is another common hyper-pigmentary condition caused by inflammation on the skin such as acne, eczema, trauma or cosmetic procedures (peels, microneedling, laser etc.). Sometimes it may fade with time over months to years but there are treatments to speed up this process such as laser toning, prescription cream or iontosonophoresis combined with skin lightening ingredients to deliver the lightening actives to deeper layer of the skin where the pigmentation tends to be found.

Other pigmentary conditions

Some pigmentary disorders such as Oculomucodermal |(naevus of Ota), ABNOM, Café Au Lait macules are caused by increased number of cells containing pigments rather than increased production of pigments (melanin). Therefore, topical skin lightening cream is not effective and it is best to be treated with laser.

We have various pigment lasers to target different depth/type of pigmentation.

There are wide differential diagnosis of hyperpigmentation and it is important to get the diagnosis right before the treatment. Dr Lee and Miss Amber have extensive experience in hyperpigmentation from their clinical work as well as observer-ships.

We can provide the best care for hyperpigmentation using our expertises and most advanced laser devices.
